Survival isn’t all regarding information and skills; it’s also regarding having the correct mentality. Anyone who considers himself or herself a survivalist or prepper would probably have an idea as to however dangerous and stressful a survival scenario will become.

Here are some ways of staying focused and relaxed within the face of life-threatening things.

1. Assessment

Crisis survival requires everyone to be realistic in their outlook.The first factor to be done is to assess your actual scenario. This should be done pretty much without regard for no matter it’s that has caused the SHTF. To use an often quoted saying; “It is what it is”. No matter what you were doing when the SHTF, you have now been forced into a state of flux. An immediate and accurate important assessment of your situation will be the most effective tool you’ve got at your disposal to make sure survival. As you create observations you’ll begin to develop an image of your surroundings. Use this image to assist you establish the facts.

2. Will Power

A key ingredient in any survival scenario is the mental attitude of the individual involved. Having survival skills is important; having the will to survive is important. without a desire to survive, acquired skills serve very little purpose and invaluable data goes to waste.

3. Practice

Practicing your survival skills is an essential part of preparing for crises. If you wish the simplest chance of remaining calm in an emergency scenario, apply what you’d do if an emergency should occur. Run drills together with your family and enact different situations anytime. What would you do if you were trapped in the basement when a tornado? What would you are doing if there have been a flood rushing your way? However would you react if you were trapped in your home and a loved one was injured or ill? By practicing completely different drills, you’ll be better prepared should the situation occur.

4. Whatever you do, DON’T BREAK DOWN.

I know this might sound silly, but not having a mental breakdown is what kept my friends and i levelheaded in our experience. It’s necessary to remain calm and not let emotion get the best of you. Crying and panicking can only cause more hysteria. the simplest way to assume before you feel the anxiety approaching is that this might be worse.

5. Do your very best to control your fears.

Is probably the greatest obstacle in survival. Be realistic. Don’t let your imagination create mountains out of mole hills. Expect worry and learn to recognize it. Accept fear and understand however it will alter your effectiveness in survival situations. Don’t be ashamed  of any fears you may have. Management fear, don’t let it management you. Fears may be lessened by keeping the body busy and free from thirst, hunger, pain, discomfort, and any other enemies to survival. Learning basic outside and first aid skills could assist you prevent or ease fears by increasing your confidence in yourself. If worry creeps up on you create sure to consider positive things. Maintain your positive mental attitude.

6. Stay Positive

Challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that cause you to fearful or depressed, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions which will maintain judgment and common sense. If it helps, carry alittle notebook in your pocket that contains positive statements. When you get anxious, take out your pocket notebook and read some lines to make you’re feeling better.

7. Laughing and Playfulness Improve Efficiency

Laughing is a good survival method in this day and age. Playful humor enhances survival for several reasons. Mental efficiency is directly associated with a person’s level of emotional arousal. At high levels of arousal someone makes mistakes. He or she reacts too quick, panics, and will act in dysfunctional ways. The exception is for an action requiring straightforward, powerful, muscular effort. High arousal will produce super-human strength. When someone is extremely emotional, he or she is less able to solve issues and build precise, coordinated movements. Laughing reduces tension to a lot of moderate levels and efficiency improves.
Playing with a scenario makes someone a lot of powerful than sheer will power. The person who toys with the situation creates an inner feeling of; This is my plaything; I’m bigger than it. I can toy with it as I wish. I won’t let it scare me. I’m going to have fun with this. Another advantage of playful humor is that it redefines the situation emotionally. The one who makes humorous observations is relaxed, alert, and focused outward toward the situation to be controlled. And a benefit of playful humor is that it results in the discovery of creative solutions.

8. Captain your own ship.

You are the captain of your own life. You’re responsible for taking control of your life and what happens in it. If you are doing not have this attitude, it is simple to be the victim mode of blaming others or outside circumstances. This typically looks like a simple way out, however in a survival scenario it can severely compromise your possibilities of surviving. Thus use survival psychology to your advantage and take control. It’ll be very liberating. However, if you are in a group, this doesn’t mean dominating others. It means that being a responsible and useful team player.

9. Get Moving

Don’t sit still and let the worry take over your body. Instead, get moving and shake it off. The flow of oxygen and also the rising of your vital sign will give you the boost of energy and adrenaline necessary to navigate your manner through a crisis. Exercise also provides your body the natural high of endorphins, and while an incoming flood may not be reason enough to begin doing jumping jacks, moving into action quickly to secure what you’ll to higher grounds, packing up your seventy two hour provide of food and water, and ensuring your first aid kit is on hand are all ways to get your legs going and kick your blood flow into high gear.

11. Prepare

Getting ready for anything is probably the best survival method. The best way to stay calm in an emergency is to prepare for one. While the steps above are great ways to handle a scenario when it happens, nothing will replace the peace of mind of being prepared. When you are prepared, you have all the tools you need in an emergency kit. You’ve mentioned exit methods together with your family. You’ve agreed on a place to meet in case of an emergency. Most significantly, being prepared means you have extra provides, like medical and food provides, on hand if you need them.
